Do you have anything to say about your experiences with us?

We have known the Nelsons, Norm and Pat, and the Azevedos, Danny, Linda, Scott and the girls for several years. They are like

extended family to us.

They have trained

several of our dogs.

Our dogs have had

many of the same

bloodlines as their

dogs. We have learned

so much from them.

And we love listening

to Norm's dog stories!

The dogs have always

proved to be stable,

biddable, wonderful

companions and GREAT

bird dogs.

-Pam & Al B., Winter Creek Shorthairs

All of our canine kids have been either superbly trained or simply loved beyond any other boarding facility. Some human owner types come away better trained as well which takes even more of Scott's patience! I have had 3 dogs trained as field trial (one) and hunting (two) by Nelson Kennels. I have also boarded 3 other dogs

at their facility for

months while our

house was being

sold. I can attest

that Scott and Linda

are the most caring,

competent trainers

I have met. I

personally attended

many training sessions to watch my dog's progress. Due to the efforts of Scott and Linda, I have a great field trial dog (Blue) and two great hunting dogs (Gunner and Reagan). I would recommend using the Azevedos and Nelson Kennels to anyone who truly values their dogs.

Nelson Kennels is a third generation dog training and boarding business located in Los Banos, California. Grandpa Norm Nelson established the business in 1969. He built the kennels, grooming shop, bird coops, barn, stalls, and pasture with his family. He taught his daughter Linda Azevedo and grandson Scott Azevedo how to train and handle dogs. They specialize in training pointing breeds for the hunting sport of "field trialing".

In 2012 Deanna Azevedo (nee Beals) joined the family and moved her Beals Horsemanship business into the home of Nelson Kennels. She brought with her an expertise in horses, but also academic training in animal sciences. She has an A.S. from Feather River College in Horse Training, a B.S. from UC Davis in Animal Behavior, and she is currently finishing her M.S. from CSU Stanislaus in Communicating Biological Sciences. She specializes in working with riders and their gaited horses.

From I-5, exit heading east towards Los Banos on Highway 152

After 2 miles turn left onto Volta Road (there will be a left turn lane)

After 2 miles turn right onto Grant Road

Nelson Kennels is on the right, look for our white gate with green lettered sign!

If you get to the kennels but no one is at the front desk that means we are training in the back! Honk your car horn three times and we will come open the gate for you.

Competing at a field trial

Scott has been working with me and my Brittany puppy since the beginning of the year. He really understands dogs and does

not use harsh techniques.

I have learned so much and

appreciate is calm demeanor.

It has now come time for me

to send my pup off for a time

to get more intensive bird

and water work and I did not

hesitate to reach out to Scott.

The kennels are clean and

safe and I know my pup will

get top-knotch care and fantastic training.

In a confusing world of horse "Traders" Deanna is a refreshing change!

If you are looking for a horse trainer that is also able to communicate effectively to you as a rider, then Deanna is the real deal! She has an easy demeanor and way of training the horse and the rider to become better partners with each other. She has not only a lifetime of personal

riding skills, but also

has her college degrees

in Equine Studies. This

blend of formal college

training and life

experience brings her

to the forefront of other

trainers who don't

pursue both of these

important attributes.

She does specialize in Gaited Horses, but also can apply her knowledge into other breeds and riding styles, too.
